Vietnam’s shoe, apparel export orders seen surging

Vietnam’s leather shoe and apparel exports are forecast to pick up as international manufacturers will have to shift their production orders from China to Vietnam to avoid adverse impacts of the U.S.-China trade war.

Tra fish exporters told to control quality of shipments to China

As Tra fish exports to neighboring China have turned rampant in recent times, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has told member businesses to strictly control the quality of their shipments to China to minimize trade risks.

Van Don Airport conducts test flight

Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province conducted a test flight on July 11 before it officially opens in December. This is the first airport to be built by a private Vietnamese firm. In March 2016, Sun Group started construction on the airport under the build-operation-transfer format with total investment capital of VND7.7 trillion.

TNI’s King Coffee cafe launched

TNI Corporation has opened the first cafe under the King Coffee brand in Gia Lai Province as part of its scheme to develop a coffee shop chain in Vietnam. The corporation, whose CEO is Le Hoang Diep Thao, has developed a distribution network covering 63 provinces and cities.

More enterprises go out of business

Despite high economic growth, the number of business closures was higher than expected in the first half of 2018, leading to a slump in new job creations compared to the same period last year.

Mobile carriers bemoan 20% discount limit

Local mobile carriers have proposed the Ministry of Information and Communications remove the discount cap of 20% on prepaid subscribers. Since this limit was introduced in March, their sales of top-up cards have slumped sharply, Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper reported. Earlier, they could offer discounts of up to 50%.
