HCMC - The Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi is organizing numerous entertaining activities for children this summer, according to Nhan Dan newspaper.

The program features around 90 ethnic people from 12 ethnic minority groups such as Tay, Dao, Mong, Thai, Muong and Kho Mu together with artisans from Duong Lam Village, Hanoi Children’s House and Khmer monks.

A highlight of the event is a “Childhood’s rural market” area set for July 27, 28 and 29, where children can taste traditional snacks like banh nep (sticky rice cake), keo lac (peanut candy), and ngo luoc (boiled corn).

Children can also learn traditional crafts like making pens from bamboo, making to he (toy figurine) and pottery, play folk games like O an quan (Mandarin square capturing) and nhay day (rope jumping), make some traditional cakes like banh A quat of Ta Oi people and banh day of Tay people, and visit Khmer pagodas.

A calligraphy contest and a painting contest with the Central Highlands theme will be held for children aged from 6 to 15 on July 16 and 17.

Children visiting the village on July 7-8 and July 21-22 are invited to a training course on Buddhist monastic life. During the two-day course, participants will learn about Buddhist rituals and Buddha’s teachings which help them transform suffering, uncover the truth, and realize true peace and happiness.
