HCMC - The HCMC Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients (SAPP) and Novaland Group on August 7 handed over 346 water purifying machines worth more than VND2.3 billion to 27 schools in Tan Tru District of Long An Province, providing clean drinking water for nearly 14,000 teachers and students.

This is part of the “Clean water for schools” program run by the SAPP and sponsored by Novaland Group which aims to provide clean water meeting the Pasteur Institute’s standards for students and teachers at schools.

Tan Tru is a remote district of the Mekong Delta province of Long An. Although the area is surrounded by Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay rivers, its population is facing clean water shortage due to saltwater intrusion.

According to Truong Thanh Liem, chairman of Tan Tru District, many schools in the district don’t have sufficient facilities to provide clean water to their students. They mainly use well water which is of low quality.

“We very much appreciate the support and will carefully maintain these machines so that our teachers and students can use clean water everyday,” he said.

In addition to Tan Tru District of Long An Province, the “Clean water for schools” program is being carried out in Thanh Phu District of Ben Tre Province. Total funding for the two areas amounts to nearly VND6 billion.

The water purifying system in Thanh Phu District is expected to be put into operation ahead of the 2018-2019 school year.

Sustainable development and community contribution is one of the core commitments of Novaland Group. The group’s community activities focus on four sectors including social security, community health, education, and community development.

In recent years, Novaland has spent more than VND255 billion on thousands of community programs across the country.

On the occasion of the handover ceremony, Novaland on behalf of the STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarship program donated VND100 million to support 100 poor students in Tan Tru District.

The STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarship program was initiated by Pham Phu Ngoc Trai, chairman of GIBC, Nguyen Thanh Sang, chairman of Phuoc Thinh-Palm Garden Resort, and Nguyen Su, former Party secretary of Hoi An City.

The program aims to encourage poor students to pursue schooling and learn from Pham Phu Thu, a well-known scholar who was born in Quang Nam Province and made great contributions to the country.

Since it was founded in January 2017, the program has granted 732 scholarships and 21 computer sets worth VND2.5 billion to students in Thai Nguyen, Ha Nam, Nghe An, Thua Thien – Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Ben Tre, An Giang and Long An provinces.
