HCMC – Children in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang had an unforgettable day on September 22 as they enjoyed a host of activities to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, and received hundreds of gifts supportive of their schooling and daily activities.

The Communist Youth Union of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade and Hong Quang pagoda jointly held the charitable event, entitled “Enjoy Mid-Autumn Festival 2018” for the children in Dong Hoa Commune, Chau Thanh District, and in an open house of Thien Phuoc pagoda in the provincial town of Cai Lay.

In particular, 24 orphans and abandoned kids, aged from nine months to 15 years old, received mooncakes, lanterns, and necessities from the event organizers and donors. Additionally, nine of them, who are students, were given school bags, notebooks and stationery.

Especially an exclusive “Loving gift box”, which includes books, comics, coloring books, crayons and a bookshelf, was presented to the kids, enabling them to enjoy both studying and playing. The volunteer youth also made twisting baloons and spent time playing and singing with the kids.

As part of the program, the “Enjoy Mid-Autumn Festival 2018” Night was fulfilled with laughter of more than 500 children and their parents at Hong Quang pagoda to enjoy the festive evening and a buffet party.

Over 500 gift sets comprising mooncakes, lanterns, notebooks, and milk had been given to the kids in Dong Hoa Commune. Of these, 50 underprivileged children having outstanding academic performance had brought home additional presents.

The event received generous support from a slew of companies, organizations and individuals, such as Find Moon Garment, Gia Thinh Distribution and HCMC Power Corporation, thus bringing a meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival to children in remote areas, particularly those who were born to poverty-stricken families.
