HCMC - Vietnamese hip-hop star Suboi, young EDM artist Teddy Chilla, and artist and choreographer Pierre Larauza and Emmanuelle Vincent from Brussels-based studio t.r.a.n.s.i.t.s.c.a.p.e will cooperate in the solo contemporary dance “Mutante” at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF) in HCMC on January 23, starting at 8 p.m.

The show is inspired by Vietnam’s cities where women cover their faces and bodies entirely when riding a motorcycle to protect themselves from the sun and pollution. Momentarily, they become anonymous and faceless people.

The artists’ collaboration follows the success of their multidisciplinary performance “Distorsions Urbaines” at the Saigon Opera House in 2017.

An excerpt from “Mutante” was presented at the HCMC Museum of Fine Arts in January 2018 as part of the exhibition “Le sourire de la mutation”.

t.r.a.n.s.i.t.s.c.a.p.e was created by Pierre Larauza and Emmanuelle Vincent in 2003 with an aim to explore the art of movements through combined contemporary art forms ranging from performance to installation, through dance films and workshops, linking different art disciplines with a cross-cultural approach.

Pierre Larauza and Emmanuelle Vincent also work as lecturers at HCMC University of Fine Arts where they founded the multicultural art lab May xay sinh to (Blender) in 2016 together with artist Thy Nguyen Truong Minh and the university’s president Nguyen Van Minh.

“Mutante” is supported by the French Community of Belgium (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles) and Suboi Entertainment. Tickets cost from VND100,000 to VND300,000. Students just pay VND100,000.
