HCMC - Ben Tre Import and Export JSC (Betrimex), a local manufacturer and exporter of coconut-based products, and representatives of Ben Tre and Tra Vinh provinces handed over 10 charity houses to poor coconut farmers in the areas on January 29, helping them survive financial burdens and enjoy the Tet Holiday.

The activity is part of a program on joining hands to build homes for coconut farmers launched by Betrimex, in response to policies on poverty reduction and providing good accommodations for poor coconut farmers.

Each of the charity houses was funded at VND45 million by Betrimex, along with other sources backed by social programs of local authorities. The houses were presented to local farmers in Ben Tre’s Binh Dai and Giong Trom districts, and Cang Long District in Tra Vinh.

Huynh Thi Ly, residing in Ben Tre’s Binh Dai District, who is among the beneficiary households, expressed her delight, saying that she would like to thank the local authorities and Betrimex for helping her family have a decent house to celebrate the Tet Holiday. From now on, she and the family can focus on working to bring up their children, she added.

The handover of the charity houses is the initial step of Betrimex to support coconut farmers during this year. It will then continue to invest in manufacturing and expand distributing network to guarantee the output of coconuts in Tra Vinh and Ben Tre, the two major sources of coconuts for the firm.

In addition, it plans to strengthen the connection between local farmers and enterprises to increase added values for coconut products, aiming to help local coconut farmers increasingly improve their livings.
