HCMC – Many local tour operators in HCMC have offered a special tour program called “Foreigners enjoy Vietnamese Tet” starting from the first day of the lunar year to international visitors so that they could come to locals’ houses and learn about the country’s longest traditional holiday.

Participants of the Tet tour program, which will conclude on the fourth day of the first lunar month, or February 8, had been taken to the spring flower festival at Tao Dan Park, Cho Lon Market and a pagoda yesterday before visiting residents’ houses to celebrate the Tet holiday with their hosts.

To fully introduce the Vietnamese people’s Tet cultural values to the foreign tourists, travel firms have selected families which celebrate Tet in a traditional way to join the program. Besides this, some participating hosts are well-informed about the culture in order to act as a storyteller.

Apart from putting on special Tet tours in HCMC, Saigontourist Travel Service Company provided foreign travelers with tours to the Mekong Delta region during Tet. These tours are expected to sink participants into the bustling atmosphere of Tet in the Mekong Delta provinces and give the participating foreigners a chance to wrap banh tet, a traditional Tet sticky rice cake of Vietnam, with their hosts.

About 600 foreign tourists participated in the Tet tour programs in HCMC and in the Mekong Delta region this Tet, according to Saigontourist.

In particular, Vietravel had some 4,000 travelers on Tet tours departing from HCMC and other branches nationwide, while Saigontourist and TST Tourist arranged tours for 23 groups of tourists and 10 ones respectively to Thailand, Australia, Taiwan and Europe on the first day of the lunar new year.
