HCMC - Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh took part in the traditional Tich Dien (ploughing) festival, which was held in Duy Tien District of Ha Nam Province on February 11 for the people to pray for bumper harvests and prosperity, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy PM said the annual Tich Dien festival has been recognized as national intangible cultural heritage, becoming a highlight of the local culture in spring. It contributes to encouraging agricultural and rural development, honoring the role of farmers in the society, and preserving local cultural values.

According to historical documents, Tich Dien festival was first held at the foot of Doi Mountain by King Le Dai Hanh in the spring of 987.

In addition to the ploughing ritual, the festival also featured a variety of cultural and sporting activities such as buffalo decoration contest, traditional wrestling, and drum performances.
