HCMC – Two fisheries surveillance ships approached two fishing boats that sank on their way to storm shelters, and rescuers are striving to search for 26 missing fishermen, said Nguyen Xuan Binh, director of the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 4.

Fisheries surveillance ship KN473 approached fishing boat BD 96388 TS to search for 12 missing fishermen, while fisheries surveillance ship KN490 has advanced toward fishing boat BD 97469 TS to search for 14 missing victims.

At 9 a.m. on October 29, Binh said the rescuers were still searching for the missing persons. The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 4 has sought support from other relevant agencies.

On October 27, fishing boat BD 96388 TS sank at a location 125 nautical miles from the coast of Khanh Hoa Province’s Nha Trang City and fishing boat BD 97469 TS at 170 nautical miles.

By 1:30 p.m. the same day, fishing boat BD 98658 TS, whose captain was Nguyen Van Toan, approached fishing boat BD 96388 TS but could not locate the missing fishermen.

Fishing boat BD 98658 TS with 11 fishermen on board has been pulled ashore.
