HCMC – All boats and ships operating on the Bac Luan and Ka Long border rivers in Mong Cai City of Quang Ninh Province have stopped operations from today, January 21, to prevent smuggling and illegal entry.

Earlier, Mong Cai authorities had written to border stations along the border lines with China to cooperate with the police, competent forces and the authorities of communes and wards and relevant units to ban all boats and ships from operating on the rivers.

The Mong Cai government asked the owners of the operational boats and ships to ensure their boats and ships are back ashore today. The government will impose harsh sanctions on those who defy the ban, the local media reported.

The Tra Co, Van Gia and Hai Hoa border stations were told to work with the relevant units to regularly conduct patrols and tighten control over the transportation of goods and fishing to prevent illegal entry.

Do Van Tuan, vice chairman of the Mong Cai government, said the move would not affect the trade activities between the two countries as the two sides have been conducting import-export activities through the main border gates since the Covid-19 outbreak.

The ban is aimed at preventing smuggling and illegal entry on the border rivers as the Lunar New Year holiday is approaching and the coronavirus pandemic is developing complicatedly.
