Bank stocks keep main index up

HCMC – The outstanding performance of many bank stocks helped the VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange extend its rally and close up 9.8 points today, April 28.

At the close, the main index inched up 0.8% from the day earlier at 1,229.55 points, with 280 gainers and 128 losers.

Some 613 million shares worth VND15.4 trillion changed hands, edging down slightly in both volume and value. Block deals contributed VND1.2 trillion to the total value.

Many bank stocks were in positive territory, with lenders MBB, VPB and STB jumping by 2.2%-4.8%. The bank stock STB took the lead on the southern bourse by liquidity with a matching volume of 71.1 million shares.

Other bluechips such as gas firm GAS, housing developer VHM, real estate developer NVL and tech firm FPT were among key drivers of the main index.

In the speculative stock group, mining firm AMD, furniture company TTF and agricultural material firm TSC shot up to their upper limits.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, many large-cap stocks gained steam, driving the HNX-Index up 1.51 points, or 0.54%, at 282.07, and end its four-day losing streak.

Among the gainers, property firm HUT and hydraulic construction company LHC finished the day up 5% and 8%, respectively.

Lender SHB made a slight rise of 0.7% and was the most actively traded stock on the northern bourse with over 16 million shares changing hands.
