HCMC – The Ha Nam Provincial Health Department has confirmed four new locally-transmitted cases of Covid-19. They are relatives of a returnee from Japan who had completed quarantine requirement last week before testing positive for Covid-19.

The four fresh cases include the parents, the wife, and a one-year-old daughter of the returnee. The Health Ministry, however, has not yet confirmed these cases.

Ha Nam authorities then locked down the suspected cases' place of residence in Quan Nhan Hamlet, Dao Ly Commune, Ly Nhan District in this northern province and adopted measures to cope with the spread of the disease. They also decided to suspend large gatherings, and shut down eateries located on the National Highway 1A section starting 6 p.m. today, April 29, according to Tran Xuan Duong, vice chairman of the provincial government.

Minister of Health, Nguyen Thanh Long, was heading to Ha Nam to direct efforts to combat the disease.

Also, the competent forces are implementing contact tracing for those linked to these five cases, asking them to make health declarations and self-quarantine at home.

Earlier, the 28-year-old man returned to Vietnam on April 7, boarding Flight VJ3613 that landed at Danang International Airport. He completed the 14-day quarantine period in Danang with three times testing negative for the coronavirus. On April 22, he left a quarantine center, took a passenger bus from Danang to his home in Quan Nhan Hamlet.

Two days later, his mother took him to a local medical center for health declaration after he developed symptoms of cough and fever. His Covid-19 testing result came out as positive on April 28.

Authorities discovered that 32 people had come into close contact with the man and 200 others were linked to him.

Further, the Ministry of Health this afternoon issued an urgent announcement to search for people boarding the same flight as the man, asking them to contact the nearest medical center for support and taking Covid-19 testing, as well as to take Covid-19 preventive measures, even though they had completed the mandatory quarantine requirement.
