Vietnam’s Covid-19 infections jump by 45, with six locally-infected cases

HCMC – The Health Ministry this evening, April 29, reported 45 fresh Covid-19 patients, including six cases by community transmission, sending Vietnam’s tally to 2,910 cases to date.

Among the new patients, 37 Vietnamese citizens and two Indian experts were taken to quarantine centers in Can Tho, Long An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Khanh Hoa, Nghe An, Vinh Phuc, and Danang upon their arrival in Vietnam. They entered Vietnam from overseas between April 12 and 28 and are being treated at medical centers and hospitals throughout the country.

As for the five locally-infected cases, they included five members of a family in the northern province of Ha Nam and an HCMC resident. They were linked to a returnee from Japan who had completed quarantine requirement last week before testing positive for Covid-19.

Earlier, the 28-year-old resident of Ha Nam returned to Vietnam on Flight VJ3613 that landed at Danang International Airport on April 7. He completed the 14-day quarantine period in Danang on April 22 with three times testing negative for the coronavirus and was allowed to begin self-quarantine at home.

On April 24, the Ha Nam Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevetion took his samples for Covid-19 testing after he developed symptoms of cough and fever. His testing result came out positive on April 28.

His five relatives are under treatment at the Ha Nam Province General Hospital while the HCMC resident is being treated at Cu Chi Field Hospital in HCMC.

Up to now, of the tally, 2,516 coronavirus patients in the country have fully recovered, while fatalities remained at 35.
