HCMC - All bars, discos and karaoke parlors across HCMC must close from 6 p.m. today, April 30, to prevent the spread of Covid-19, said HCMC Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong at a meeting on the prevention and control of the pandemic.

The municipal chairman asked owners of bars, discos and karaoke parlors to cooperate with the municipal government, the local media reported.

He also required other services to strictly comply with Covid-19 prevention and control measures or face closure.

When bars, discos and karaoke parlors will be allowed to resume operations will depend on the situation, Phong added.

At the meeting, Phong also asked departments and agencies to prevent cross infection in centralized quarantine centers, trace those in close contact with Covid-19 patients in case new cases are detected and strictly comply with regulations on quarantine.

They must seriously employ pandemic prevention and control measures to prevent the infection from patients to medical staff and provide local authorities with a list of those completing their quarantine period and others who are quarantining at home.

Phong also asked local authorities to impose heavy sanctions on those who do not wear face masks in public places.

As for Covid-19 testing, the city should try to test 50,000 samples per day and establish groups taking samples, Phong said, adding that students from medical schools can be mobilized to support the testing work if needed.

The governments of Halong City of Quang Ninh Province, Ha Nam Province and Hanoi City have also temporarily shut down bars, discos, clubs and karaoke parlors.
