HCMC - The risk of a new coronavirus wave in Vietnam remains extremely high due to the complicated development of Covid-19 in many countries, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told an urgent meeting on April 30.

Speaking at the meeting on Covid-19 infection prevention and control, the prime minister said that some localities, individuals and units had recently failed to strictly follow anti-Covid-19 measures. In addition, control over entry and the quarantine of imported cases remained weak, posing a high risk of Covid-19 infections.

As a result, some locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases are being reported these days, Thanh Nien Online reported.

He also praised the localities, units and individuals for their efforts in Covid-19 prevention and strict compliance with Covid-19 safety protocols, and tasked the competent agencies with imposing harsh sanctions on those who violated regulations on quarantine and Covid-19 infection prevention and control, causing community transmission.

In addition, the prime minister repeatedly said that the key aim of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic was to ensure the safety of residents and implement the dual task of fighting the pandemic and ensuring socioeconomic growth.

The competent agencies and local authorities were asked to adopt more drastic measures and effective solutions for contact tracing, lockdown and quarantine to deal with Covid-19.

PM Chinh also assigned the Ministry of Health to establish standards and criteria for determining the Covid-19 levels and risk groups and actively seek Covid-19 vaccine supply sources to conduct widespread vaccination as soon as possible.

In related news, the Hanoi Department of Health said that some provinces and cities had reported locally-transmitted Covid-19 patients who were linked to a Covid-19 case in Ha Nam Province. Hanoi City had three cases, leading to Panasonic Company and Vinco Company in Dong Anh District suspending their operations as two of the patients are employees at their firms.
