HCMC – The HCMC government has decided to suspend many nonessential services, including massage parlors, steam rooms, theaters, cinemas and video game arcades, from 6 p.m. today, May 3.

At a meeting of the municipal steering committee for Covid-19 infection prevention and control, HCMC Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong said the decision was taken as many residents had returned to the city after the Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) holidays, the local media reported.

Phong told heads of agencies, factories, schools and other entities to ask their employees and students to make health declarations after they returned to the city.

He ordered heavy sanctions against those who fail to make health declarations or provide dishonest information. The municipal police must act drastically to promptly detect those illegally entering the city.

The municipal chairman also called on residents to wear face masks in public places. Heads of centralized quarantine centers must take responsibility in case of cross infection at their quarantine centers or transmission in the community.

Phong stressed that the risk of a new coronavirus wave in the city remains extremely high, especially after the holiday. Therefore, he asked districts, departments and agencies to be on high alert.

He also sought the suspension of unimportant seminars and workshops.

As for religious events, the number of participants will depend on the scale of the events, but all participants must strictly comply with regulations on pandemic prevention and control, Phong noted.

The city had earlier closed bars, discos and karaoke parlors from 6 p.m. on April 30.

In related news, Hanoi will close sidewalk eateries, coffee and tea stalls as well as relic and religious sites from 5 p.m. today.

As the city has reported community-infected Covid-19 cases with a complicated traveling history, the city will temporarily suspend some nonessential services until it issues new directions.

Indoor restaurants must ensure hygiene and disinfection and ask customers to keep a minimum distance of one meter from others. They were encouraged to offer takeaway services. Those failing to comply with regulations on pandemic prevention and control will have their operations suspended until the regulations are in place.
