HCMC - Bac Giang Province, the country’s largest Covid-19 hotspot, is adopting a number of aggressive anti-Covid-19 measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus and be free from communtiy infections by June 21.

Speaking at a recent online meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Duong Van Thai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Giang Province, said the province had basically brought the pandemic under control as high-risk areas had been put on lockdown and large-scale testing had been conducted.

Bac Giang will be striving to quash community transmission at quarantine facilities or areas under lockdown by June 17, while enhancing efforts to eliminate the disease prior to June 21, according to the representative of Bac Giang.

Due to some new cases being detected at quarantine centers, Le Anh Duong, chairman of the province, decided to establish a monitoring team there led by the deputy director of the provincial Department of Health.

The team is responsible for carrying out unannounced checks at the quarantine facilities and closely monitoring these sites to prevent cross infections, as well as addressing obstacles facing the quarantine centers.

Mai Son, vice chairman of Bac Giang Province, said that fulfilling the target of having no new Covid-19 cases by June 21 was a strong political determination of the province.

It is vital that employees should stay at firms all the time to ensure production activities run smoothly in the fight against Covid-19, Son said.

The provincial government also asked residents of Viet Yen, Yen Dung and Hiep Hoa districts to stay at home and refrain from going out for non-urgent and non-essential reasons to minimize the risk of community transmission.

Besides, residents in other parts of the province should strictly follow Covid-19 safety protocols, including avoiding gatherings and parties.

After June 21, if any Covid-19 case is detected in any part of the province due to subjective reasons, the leader of the locality must assume responsibility, according to the province.

Addressing a meeting with Bac Giang on June 10, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son expected the province to eliminate the disease in the next 7-14 days to get people's daily lives and production activities back on track.

Bac Giang has overcome the hardest period in the fight against Covid-19, Bac Giang Chairman Duong said, adding that its current mission is to completely eliminate community transmission by June 21, the local media reported.
